WHAT IS VA EDUCATION?

BREF administers VA educational activities that 1) improve or enhance performance, duties, professional knowledge, and proficiencies of VA staff and clinicians; 2) provide Veterans - or their caregivers and family members - with education, tools, or resources to improve their health and wellbeing, or 3) directly bring overall value to the VA and impact furtherance of the VA Health Care and BREF missions.


WHY IS EDUCATION IN THE VA IMPORTANT?

Educational activities taking place at VA Medical Centers focus on enhancing Veterans’ quality of life and consequently positive outlook. Additionally, providing education to physicians and hospital staff ensures that they maintain the highest level of knowledge and ability to most effectively care for Veteran patients, keeping up with the forefront of modern technologies and medical advancements.


WHAT IS BREF’S ROLE IN VA EDUCATION?

BREF can help identify funding sources to support education of Veterans, their caregivers, or physicians and employees at VA Medical Centers, as well as assist in the development of and submission of education grant applications. Funding received by BREF for education purposes are used to carry out the scope of work on education or quality improvement projects, conduct training and purchase training materials and supplies, facilitate VA physician/staff recruitment activities, conduct grant rounds, assist with pharmacy and medical resident expenses, support travel to scientific or training conferences, Continuing Education, and facilitate meetings and guest speakers.
